The 10-Minute Glovebox Check
A printable checklist for what to keep in your vehicle. Print it, take it out to the car, and check things off. It takes about ten minutes, and most people find at least two things missing.
In the glovebox or console
- ☐ A flashlight that turns on right now, not a dead one
- ☐ Tire pressure gauge
- ☐ Phone charging cable that fits your current phone
- ☐ Pen and a little paper
- ☐ Registration and insurance card, current and readable
- ☐ A printed list of emergency contacts (phones die)
- ☐ Disposable gloves
- ☐ Some cash in small bills
In the trunk or cargo area
- ☐ Spare tire, checked for pressure
- ☐ Jack and lug wrench, and you know where they are
- ☐ 12V tire inflator
- ☐ Jumper cables or a jump starter
- ☐ Multi-tool or a small basic toolkit
- ☐ Paracord or straps
- ☐ Work gloves
- ☐ Something reflective or a marker light, so other drivers see you
- ☐ Water, and a snack that won't melt
- ☐ Basic first-aid kit
- ☐ Rain jacket or warm layer for the season
Two habits that keep it working
- Twice a year (an easy reminder is when the clocks change), click on the flashlight, top up anything rechargeable, and check the spare.
- Before a road trip or trail day, run down this list again. It takes less time than finding a gas station with an air pump.
